Master Moving Tips Packing Hacks and Pro Tips: How to Make Your Move a Breeze

  • Start early -

While it may seem obvious many people don't leave enough time to properly prepare for the move. Starting early reduces stress and allows you to deal with unintended problems, (something always comes up!). You've got enough to worry about when relocating, don't make the calendar your enemy! If you are doing the packing yourself, begin boxing up items at least four weeks ahead of the move day to provide ample time to prepare your valuable items for the big move. Master Moo-vers LLC does offer packing services whether it be your whole home, just certain rooms such as the kitchen which has a lot of delicate glassware, etc.

  • De-clutter -

It's a good idea to clear the clutter before you move, so either sell it or give it away. Try places like Freecycle.org, Gumtree.com or head to your local charity shop. MASTER MOO-VERS LLC does offer junk removal services as well so if you need us to come out and help declutter first we can. We will also take big ticket items not wanted on the day of the move and donate them!

  • Pack Heavy – Pack Light

Pack heavy items in small boxes and lighter items in larger boxes. If at all possible, try to have boxes that are uniform, so they are easily stackable in the moving truck and when moved into your new to decrease the look of clutter.

  • Bag hanging clothes

(wardrobe boxes run from 15-20 dollars) save yourself some cash! This is a great tip for when you're moving. Grab a black bin-liner bag and gather your hanging clothes. Put a rubber band around the hangers for some extra support if you want but not necessary. Once you get to your new home, hang up your clothes and remove the bag.

  • Pack a "1st Day Box and overnight bag".

Grab a box and fill it with all the essentials you'll need on the first day. Include toilet paper, personal care products etc. Remember to keep it with you on your journey to your new home, so it doesn't get mixed with the rest of your belongings and lost.

  • Put things in things -

Never leave a space empty that could be filled with smaller things. Grab your pots and put spices in them, make sure every nook and cranny is being used sensibly.

  •  Mark your boxes

Write as you go, so you don't miss anything out. As you pack your boxes, keep a note of all their contents. It's a good idea to number them so if you're missing a box, it's easy to see what you're missing. You can also then decide which boxes are more important to unpack on the first day.

  • Label plugs

Electrical wires can be a nightmare, so save yourself time and label your plugs so you can quickly work out what goes where / what          does what. You could even take a photo of your set up so at your new home you don't have to think about where everything goes.

  • Protect breakables

Keep delicate items secure in boxes by inserting paper inside them and bubble wrap on the outside. This will help to prevent any tears in your new home upon un-boxing. If you're really worried about some items, do keep them near to you on the journey and let your movers know! MARK AS FRAGILE so the movers know!  You may also put towels on the bottom and on top of the items in the boxes (bath towels, beach towels, etc) for extra protection!

  • Ziplocks

Use Ziplock bags to group bathroom items together to help protect any spillages from occurring.

  • Roll clothes

This is your call as are all of these tips… Some people are all for shoving clothes in black bin-liners bags, and some would rather have clothing more carefully packed by using the rolling method. Save more space by rolling clothes neatly, and this will mean they won't get creased.

  • Magic Eraser

Got pesky stains on your walls? I can highly recommend a 'Magic Eraser'. Just add water to your foam and stains will be removed with ease! It's a good idea to test the eraser first on an unnoticeable section, as sometimes they can work a little too well.

  •  Wrap cutlery

Tape and wrap or shrink wrap up your cutlery drawers as it is, to save time and effort packing and unpacking all the items. Once you're in your new home, just take off the tape and paper and place it in your brand-new kitchen drawer. Easy!
